Overview
Announced by ExxonMobil in February 2019 (official GIIP re-estimate after the 2022 appraisal: 3.7 tcf). On 30 June 2026 Cyprus, ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy signed a Declaration of Commercial Discovery for Glaucus and the 2025 Pegasus discovery in the same block, moving them into the development phase: Pegasus appraisal drilling from late 2026, then FEED, FID anticipated ~2029 and first gas ~2033. The leading export concept is a subsea pipeline into Egypt's existing LNG infrastructure.

How big is the Glaucus gas field?
The ministry’s current best estimate for Glaucus is 3.7 Tcf of gas in place, as of 2022, after the Glaucus-2 appraisal well; ExxonMobil’s 2019 discovery release put Glaucus-1 at 5–8 tcf before that appraisal. Figures of around 7 and of 8–9 tcf have been given for Glaucus and Pegasus combined, but only in spoken remarks relayed by the press, and no document states a combined figure. Both fields moved into development with the June 2026 Declaration of Commercial Discovery.
